Land Bank tables donation of 619 E. Chandler pending title and mortgage review

The Evansville Land Bank on May 16 voted to table consideration of a proposed donation of 619 East Chandler while staff investigates title and mortgage status and consults the Redevelopment Commission.
Board members described the house as "uninhabitable" based on site observations and noted an outstanding tax bill of about $3,750.79. The donation was offered by Shirley Payne, the court-ordered personal representative of the estate of Shirley A. Payne. Staff reported the site will require demolition if accepted for rehabilitation and that there may be unresolved mortgage or title issues.
A motion to table was approved; staff were directed to contact Ms. Payne to determine whether a mortgage or other lien exists and to consult with the Redevelopment Commission about accepting the parcel and the Land Bank’s role in eventual rehabilitation.
No final decision was made to accept the donation until title and mortgage questions are resolved and coordination with the Redevelopment Commission is complete.
