Economic development director unveils transient-guest tax recommendations and reports on grants, site-enticing work

Coffee County's economic development director updated commissioners Monday on tourism-board recommendations for spending transient-guest tax revenue and on several grant and business-recruitment initiatives.

The Tourism and Visitors Board met recently and proposed directing transient-guest tax funds toward three broad categories: local and regional tourism and marketing promotion; community event support; and other activities with a direct positive impact on tourism. The board members left the categories intentionally broad to allow flexibility in allocating funds.

"They want to be active," the economic development director said, reporting that all five tourism-board seats are now filled and that the board intends to meet again to develop more concrete proposals.
