District to replace kindergarten iPads; AppleCare and cases included in 0% financing plan

Schuylkill Valley School District staff presented several technology proposals June 24, including a plan to replace kindergarten iPads and a three‑year agreement for managed network services.
The Apple Financial Services proposal originally listed 200 iPads to refresh kindergarten devices but staff said they will reduce the order by about 30 devices to account for students who will carry devices into a discovery classroom; the anticipated final order is roughly 170 devices (150 students plus spares). The district said the purchase will be booked this year but financed over three years at 0% interest. Staff said AppleCare+ and a protective case are included in the plan; the chosen case reduces AppleCare costs and provides two no‑deductible incidents per iPad per year.
Board members asked whether 20 spares are sufficient and whether devices will be taken home long term; staff said spares are a working estimate and that the elementary currently does not send devices home, which reduces breakage risk. The administration said they decided to include manufacturer repair/replace coverage rather than a separate parent insurance program.
Other technology items reviewed and advanced for voting included a cloud‑based email security quote from BCIU (details withheld publicly for cybersecurity reasons), renewal of BCIU EdTech Pool Council membership ($577.50 for 2025–26), a three‑year managed network services agreement with Riverside Technologies Inc. at an annual cost of $18,000, and a server refresh/software update. The committee moved these items forward for recommendation to the board.
Staff said they will provide finalized iPad counts and the updated vendor quote for items where the board packet included earlier pricing.
