Norton City Council added two ordinances for first reading Monday that would authorize purchases for the newly formed service department.
Councilmember Towsley presented an item to buy IT equipment—computers and related items—from BPI Information Systems in an amount not to exceed $16,658. "This is just what it says, IT equipment, computers, and such, for $16,658 through BPI Information Systems," Towsley said during the presentation.
Towsley also introduced an ordinance to purchase a 72,000-pound rotary lift from Vehicle Service Group LLC for the service department, not to exceed $51,882.61. Councilmembers noted the lift's capacity will accommodate the city's largest vehicles and heavy trucks.
Both ordinances were added to the agenda for first reading after motions and roll-call votes; council did not take final action on either purchase at the meeting. The items will return for subsequent readings and possible adoption in a later meeting.
