The Del City Economic Development Authority on June 16 approved a memorandum of understanding with the Del City Chamber of Commerce that allocates up to $50,000 from hotel-motel tax revenues for community events and chamber-managed programs in fiscal year 2025–26.
Chamber Director Josh (full name not provided at the meeting) told trustees the chamber managed several events this year — including the Armed Forces Day parade, a senior-focused event, and Neighbors Night Out — under a previous $17,000 MOU. Josh provided a written breakdown of past spending and explained the chamber’s proposed use of the new funds: parades, neighborhood events, “Dining in Del City” promotions, a potential rebate program for shopping local, and a small-business grant program to help businesses afford signage or minor capital improvements. Josh said the chamber’s fiscal year runs Jan.–Dec., and the $50,000 would be disbursed in two payments of $25,000 (one at the start of the city’s fiscal year and one in January) to align with the chamber’s budget cycle.
Trustees asked for clarifications about how funds would be used. Josh said the chamber would require participating businesses to be chamber members and that leftover funds would roll over into the chamber’s next fiscal year. He described proposed grant examples (for instance, a business with a $3,500 contribution toward a $5,000 sign might be eligible for a $1,500 chamber grant). Josh said the chamber can accept sponsorship checks and manage event revenue directly — a mechanism the city said is less convenient for direct sponsorships.
The MOU authorizes chair to execute the agreement and allocates funding from hotel-motel tax revenues “not to exceed $50,000” for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. The authority voted to approve the MOU by voice; Trustee Taylor, Trustee Brown and Trustee Dean recorded aye votes and the chair voted aye.
Trustees also approved related DCEDA items on June 16, including a $25,000 professional-services agreement with Retail Coach LLC for economic development consulting. The retail-consulting contract was approved separately and is not part of the chamber MOU but was considered at the same meeting.
