Council introduces five-year extension with Republic Services; pricing to change July 1

Norton City Council on June 16 introduced an ordinance (first reading) authorizing the administrative officer to execute a five-year extension with Republic Services of Ohio Hauling LLC for residential solid waste collection and recycling services.
Mister Mowery presented the extension and said there are no changes to the level of service; only pricing tiers will be adjusted under the new term. "No change to the service, but the price... for unlimited currently is $21.03... and it'll go down to $19.69 for the first year," Mowery said, describing the initial pricing in the proposed extension. He added that midyear the price will adjust to $20.28 before returning to the current level later in the contract term.
Council formally moved to add ordinance 64 20 25 to the evening's agenda for a first reading; the motion passed on roll call. Officials said residents will not need to take any action — the new pricing will appear on bills starting from the contract effective date (staff said the pricing would apply effective July 1 or the date specified in the contract). Representatives of Republic Services attended and were described as having provided good service with no complaints noted during council discussion.
No final vote on the extension was taken; the ordinance was presented for first reading only.
