Temple — City communications staff told the council on May 15 that the department has restructured as “Communications, Tourism and Events” and highlighted new public-facing services and internal tools intended to streamline city communications and event permitting.
Staff said the department will continue to handle citywide marketing and internal communications while taking on tourism and event operations, including management of the Maybourne Center. The team said it has rolled out TTX Connect (the city’s rebranded 311 platform, including a website, app and text feature), is implementing a citywide Canva account for standardized design templates, and has published an interactive capital-improvement-project map on letsTalkTemple.com to improve project transparency.
Staff also summarized outreach and workforce efforts: a February hiring event drew 445 jobseekers, produced four offers and about 120 informal interviews; the city now has a talent-acquisition coordinator in People Operations. The tourism team said it will assume management of the Maybourne Center, and the city has hired a new venue manager who will start June 9.
The communications team also described content and awards: the staff’s “Let’s Talk Temple” video series and other outreach products were recognized in several professional competitions (including NAGC and TAMYO categories), and a monthly newsletter to utility customers reported a high open rate compared with standard benchmarks.
Ending: The department said it will continue to expand digital tools (interactive CIP map, newsroom and event application forms) and to pursue tourism and sports-event sales work; councilmembers praised the team’s work and awards.
