Canton extends Waste Pro solid-waste contract for three years; company agrees to 2.5% annual adjustments

The Canton City Council on May 15 approved a three-year extension of the city's solid-waste collection agreement with Waste Pro.

At the prior meeting staff brought a proposed amendment in which Waste Pro asked to extend the contract three years beyond the current term, which expires Sept. 30. Waste Pro proposed using the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for waste services to set annual increases; council asked whether Waste Pro would agree to set the increase at 2.5% for each year of the extension. Staff reported Waste Pro agreed to set the increase at 2.5% each September 30 during the three-year extension. Staff noted a caveat raised by the company: while it will set the increase at 2.5% for each of the three years, it did not agree to a legal cap that would prohibit other adjustments outside that schedule.

Councilmember McGrew moved to extend the contract for three years; the motion was seconded and passed with all members voting in favor.
