Former governor Bill Haslam joins University of Tennessee Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees announced that Speaker Sexton has appointed former Governor Bill Haslam to serve on the University of Tennessee Board of Trustees. Haslam was introduced during the special electronic meeting and offered brief remarks, saying he looks forward to joining the board and working with trustees.

Chairman John Compton and other trustees welcomed Haslam and thanked him for taking on the role. The meeting noted that the statute provides for two legislative appointees to the board; the speaker’s appointment adds to the board membership and the speaker and lieutenant governor will make additional appointments in the next cycle to replace trustees whose terms will end.

Haslam did not participate in a recorded vote during the meeting; his appointment was described as an executive appointment by the speaker and discussed as an incoming trustee during the meeting’s announcements.
