David Miller and university staff provided trustees an update on the enterprise resource planning (ERP) and human capital management (HCM) implementation during the special meeting. Miller said the implementation has progressed since the January go-live but that full functionality and optimization extend beyond the initial deployment.
Miller described a mix of issues: some features performed as expected, others required further refinement, and the work now is the “most challenging” phase as staff tailor configurations and resolve a small set of root causes that will yield cascading fixes across many processes. He noted payroll complexities such as "9 over 12" academic pay cycles and multiple funding sources per employee, which require careful configuration.
When asked how far the project has progressed, Miller said, "I would think 85% through." He credited Oracle day-two services and Huron Consulting with supporting incremental fixes, described frequent communication with campus users and announced a newly launched dashboard available to more than 5,000 users to track outstanding actions and expected completion dates. Trustees thanked Miller and staff for listening sessions, focus groups and outreach to end users as the system is optimized.
The update was informational; no formal board action was recorded on the ERP agenda item during the special meeting.
