Rankin County supervisors approve condemnation settlement, hire bond professionals and recess to May 29

The Rankin County Board of Supervisors approved a settlement to resolve a pending condemnation proceeding on a Florence Byron Parkway parcel, authorized three professionals to assist with a planned general obligation bond issue and recessed the meeting to May 29.

A staff member told the board the county has a landowner counteroffer to resolve all matters related to Parcel 19 on Florence Byron Parkway in the amount of $23,500 plus two curb cuts, and asked the board to authorize transfer of title of the right of way to Rankin County. The board moved and voted to approve the settlement on those terms. The property owner was identified in the record as Susan Guy Walker.

The board also voted to approve three firms to serve if the county proceeds with a later general obligation bond issue: Municipal Advisers of Mississippi, Inc., as financial adviser; Bernini Law Firm as bond counsel; and Raymond James as underwriter. A staff member said the professionals would be engaged only if the board later moves forward to issue the bond. The motion to approve those firms passed.

Earlier in the meeting the board voted to add the two items to the agenda for consideration. The board then recessed the meeting to reconvene at 9 a.m. on May 29.
