Representative Kofia described the bill as a “smart and forward‑looking investment” that funds kayak launches, trailheads, accessible playgrounds, fishing piers and multi‑use paths. On the floor, Kofia said the bill appropriates $41,760,000 from the trust fund and highlighted that projects will reach both rural and urban communities.
Other members emphasized local projects funded by the bill. Representative Edwards said the bill includes “over $350,000” for improvements in Spindler Park in his district. Representative Scott identified a $400,000 allocation for Intervale Roselawn Playground on the Joe Louis Greenway in his district. Representative Andrews noted a $650,000 allocation for a Lincoln Township beach access and work on the Marquette Greenway in her district.
The House recorded a roll‑call vote of 104‑2 in favor of the bill, and the majority leader moved for immediate effect, which the House ordered.
Supporters said the projects will improve public access to outdoor spaces, support tourism and create construction and maintenance jobs. They also cited statewide economic data: according to remarks on the floor, outdoor recreation generates more than $10 billion in value‑added economic activity in Michigan and supports more than 100,000 jobs, figures attributed to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis during debate.
