The Los Angeles City Council voted to create a dedicated section of the city’s website to provide public information about the police consent decree and related reform efforts.
Councilmember Eric Garcetti introduced the motion, saying a public-facing portal would help residents understand the scope and documents associated with the consent decree and make the oversight process more transparent. Councilmember Mark Ridley-Thomas, speaking in favor, said making materials accessible would help restore public confidence and aid committee oversight.
Councilmembers emphasized the need to coordinate with the Police Commission, the Los Angeles Police Department, and the public-safety committee to ensure accurate, timely and neutral presentation of consent-decree materials. The motion passed on a roll call vote with all members present voting yes.
Ending: The council directed staff and committee chairs to work with the police department and commission to establish content, update schedules and public notification protocols for the consent-decree web portal.
