Wayne County says bridge repairs remain on 60‑day schedule; Grosse Ile records higher traffic during closure

Porcirrelli said township representatives toured the bridge and “went inside of the bridge in the catwalk area where they're working to see exactly what's been done,” and observed that “they have a lot of the steel already repaired, primed, and painted underneath.” He added that he knew crews had lost some days to rain and setup, and noted an apparent drone over the site during the work.
He summarized county timing and the township's traffic monitoring: “they are absolutely still on schedule for the 2 months or the 60 days to have that entire work done.” Porcirrelli also said new traffic counts show “about 4,500 more vehicles going over this bridge now than any of the other closures,” bringing peak daily volumes to about 16,500 vehicles and weekend counts to roughly 12,500 vehicles.
Porcirrelli compared the current counts with a February 2021 closure that occurred during the COVID‑19 pandemic, saying earlier counts had been in the “11/12,000 range.” He said weekday volumes now show an unusual midmorning peak from about 9 a.m. to noon and that the evening period from about 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. is similar in volume to the midmorning period. He suggested the township share the timing information so residents or service providers could consider adjusting schedules.
