Senator Lang told the Senate Finance Committee he met with the Department of Revenue Administration (DRA) and plans to bring committee amendments to adjust revenue estimates used in HB1.
Lang said DRA recommended revenue increases in some areas after additional weeks of data. He said he will ask for a committee amendment to update some numbers and will propose a tax‑amnesty program to encourage payment of state tax liabilities without penalties and interest.
Lang said the state has run tax amnesty programs roughly every 10–15 years and that prior amnesty efforts produced about $19 million in the first year; because the department’s new computer system improves collections, he said the committee should expect a smaller initial return and proposed a $5 million revenue bump in the first year of the biennium.
Lang described the new collections system as enabling better cross‑checks of federal and state returns. He said the administration will release the formal amendment when DRA provides it.
No formal vote was taken; Lang said he would file the committee amendment when DRA drops the language.
