The Sawyer County Zoning Committee approved CUP 25-037 allowing a 16-by-20-foot pavilion to be built on a parcel across Victory Heights Circle from the primary dwelling, finding that the location would reduce impervious-surface impact near Lac Courte Oreilles.
Staff said the parcel meets conditions in Appendix D, section 4.26 (parent 2) for accessory structures built on adjacent parcels divided by a public road when the town approves and a deed restriction legally joins the parcels. The proposed pavilion is about 450 feet from the ordinary high-water mark and would not include plumbing or habitable space.
Applicants Fred and Tory Quiggle said the pavilion is intended for personal use — drying and splitting wood — and that they would harvest dead wood on their own property. “That’s a priority for us. We like our neighbors,” Tory Quiggle said when asked about potential visual impacts.
The town of Sand Lake approved the request. Staff recommended standard conditions, including deed restriction or restrictive covenants and confirmation that the structure will not contain bedrooms or kitchen facilities. The committee approved the CUP with findings of fact 1 through 15. A roll call showed unanimous support from committee members present.
