Family Promise reports full capacity, plans warming shelter and community meals

Family Promise representative said the organization "is at full capacity right now. We have 29 total individuals, 11 adults, 18 children." The representative said the agency is moving families in and out and continuing casework while developing additional services, including drop-in case management for substance use and mental-health needs, a warming shelter for this coming winter and community meals that could grow into a soup kitchen.
The comment came during the meeting’s shelter reports section. The task force’s Val, a staff member in the county commissioner’s office, reminded participants that commissioners were at an economic summit and that the task force should expect continued outdoor sleeping during warm months.
Family Promise also announced a public fundraiser: "Rockin' for a Cause," a Rolling Stones cover band event scheduled for Aug. 17 at Penn's Peak; the representative provided a QR code for ticket information.
Task force members raised operational constraints that limit shelter capacity. Janet, an action-committee member, said the action committee is monitoring available funding sources and reported 44 open cases and 52 households assisted since the beginning of the year. Janet also said the committee monitors call-ins: 87 calls to the office since the start of the year, with 28 callers identifying as street homeless and 25 referrals coming through 2-1-1.
Task-force participants highlighted a long Family Promise waiting list. One participant thanked Carbon County Children & Youth for emergency hotel vouchers that allowed a family to stay for one night when a room briefly became available. The task force also discussed landlord barriers — credit checks, background checks and past evictions — that keep households from securing permanent housing even when assistance is available.
Family Promise and task force members said they will continue to coordinate housing searches and to share landlord contacts when openings appear. The meeting closed with scheduling details for the next task-force meeting in July.
