Cerritos urges voters to return mailed ballots, details drop-box and in-person options

The City of Cerritos says every registered voter has been mailed a vote-by-mail ballot and voting is under way ahead of the March 4 general municipal election. Contests on the municipal ballot include three seats on the Cerritos City Council and two charter amendment measures.
City officials reminded voters that after marking their ballots they must sign and date the vote-by-mail ballot return envelope for the ballot to be counted. Voters may return completed ballots in one of three ways: deposit the ballot in a city vote-by-mail drop box, return it through the U.S. Postal Service, or deliver it in person to the city clerk’s office at Cerritos City Hall.
Drop boxes are open now through 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4. The city named two drop-box locations in the announcement: Cerritos Civic Center Plaza and Cerritos Park East. Ballots returned by mail do not require postage; they must be postmarked by Tuesday, March 4 and received by the city clerk or elections official by mail no later than seven days after election day to be counted.
Completed ballots may also be dropped off at the office of the city clerk on the first floor of Cerritos City Hall until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4. The city provided in-person voting hours at City Hall as follows: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., now through March 4; Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and on Election Day, Tuesday, March 4, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The announcement also noted that Cerritos voters who are eligible may be participating in the State Senate District 36 special primary election; that contest accepts votes until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The city cautioned voters to place each election’s ballot into its respective return envelope: the State Senate special primary uses a purple ballot and return envelope, while the Cerritos general municipal election uses a gray ballot and return envelope. Voters may use any city drop-box location to submit both ballots.
