Parent raises concern after child left at bus stop; district asked to review transportation policies

During public comment, a parent described an incident in which her first-grade child was dropped at a bus stop without an adult present.

The parent said she called the transportation office and spoke with supervisor Tammy Leighton, who told her that the driver did nothing wrong and that after-school arrangements are the parent's responsibility. The parent said the driver instructed the child to walk home (a quarter-mile), then left. Ring-camera footage reviewed by the parent showed the child crying and pacing at the doorstep for about 20 minutes before an adult arrived. The parent said she later watched bus video and did not hear yelling but confirmed the child told the driver no one was at the stop and the driver nevertheless told her to go home.

The parent asked the board to review transportation policies and procedures, raised safety concerns about leaving young children unsupervised at bus stops, and noted a separate recent incident in which a driver allegedly used inappropriate language with an 8-year-old.
