Trustee Kim Bradley Rickard read a letter of resignation to the board during public business on May 12, stating she will step down effective after the meeting. In the letter, Rickard said the decision followed months of difficulty fulfilling trustee responsibilities “in a way that aligns with” her values of inclusive, transparent governance and respectful public engagement.
Rickard wrote that she had experienced a “lack of communication and transparency” that left her out of important conversations and decisions, and that she had observed an “us versus them mentality” in board relations with community organizations. She wrote that her suggestions were sometimes not given full consideration and that attempts to ask questions were met with “resistance or defensiveness.” Rickard said the situation had affected her health and that she would hand off any ongoing projects to remaining board members.
Fellow trustees publicly thanked Rickard for her service and expressed regret at her departure. The mayor said the village valued her contributions and that Rickard remained a village resident and would be welcome to engage moving forward.
