County to host FEMA individual assistance intake; fiscal court declares emergency for bridge repairs

Grayson County emergency management staff told the fiscal court the county has been approved for FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) related to the April storms, and officials said they would host intake sessions for affected residents.
At the meeting, the county’s emergency staff member Blake said the county was also designated a StormReady county by the National Weather Service. Blake said residents with damage to private dwellings from the April 2 storms should apply to FEMA for assistance and that the county will publish application locations, required documents and hours for FEMA intake; “FEMA is gonna be the approving or denying entity,” Blake said.
Blake described widespread public‑works damage as a separate process from individual assistance and said the county is compiling estimates for roadways, easements and watersheds. He told the court a particular roadway project is “probably gonna be north of $2,000,000” and that combined damage including roadways could be “north of probably 5 to 6,000,000,” remarks he characterized as working estimates.
The court also declared the repair of a county bridge (noted in court materials as the Fragrant Grove bridge repair) an emergency to allow temporary crossings and to seek emergency funding so residents have safe access. Court staff said the road department will place a temporary crossing and that state inspectors had given notice to close one structure unless emergency work was performed; the court moved to declare emergency repairs and approved the motion.
County staff said bids for some storm repair projects are out and that the county is coordinating with the Lincoln Trail Area Development District engineer for larger repair and bid packages. Officials emphasized that homeowners should monitor county Facebook posts and the county website for FEMA intake times and document checklists.
