Town awards Wilderstein recognition for preservation work

The Town Board and Historic and Archaeological Preservation Advisory Committee recognized Wilderstein with the 2025 award for excellence in historic preservation for its multi-decade restoration and stewardship of the Wilderstein historic site.
At the start of its May 20 meeting the Town Board of Rhinebeck and the Historic and Archaeological Preservation Advisory Committee presented Wilderstein with the town’s 2025 award for excellence in historic preservation.
The board said the Wilderstein Historic Site has pursued a long program of stabilization, repair and restoration of the house, carriage house and grounds and that the organization preserved buildings, landscape features, original furnishings and archival documentation. The board praised HPAC co-chairs and volunteers for producing the Town of Rhinebeck Historical and Archaeological Handbook, an educational product the board said won an award from the Federation of Planning in New York State for excellence.
Greg Siqueiros, executive director of Wilderstein, accepted the award and thanked the community, volunteers and staff. He said the site remains an ongoing project with more work ahead and that the recognition would help inspire other property owners to undertake preservation work. The board encouraged residents to visit the Wilderstein grounds and noted that an exhibit board featuring preservation work will be displayed at the Starr Library and the Wharton Library through the rest of the month.
The award and the handbook were presented during Historic Preservation Month; the board read excerpts describing the nonprofit’s origin and the condition of the property when Margaret ("Daisy") Suckley donated it to a preservation trust.
