Resident tells trustees 22,000 property owners received incorrect appraisal notices; urges protests before June 2

During public comment on May 15, a resident told the Arlington ISD Board of Trustees that the local appraisal district had mailed incorrect preliminary notices to about 22,000 property owners and urged anyone whose market value did not fall to file a protest by the June 2 deadline.
"For 22,000 property owners get the postcard incorrectly ... they sent the postcard to the non-Homestead properties, but they sent postcard to all the property owners," the speaker, identified in the record as Ms. Syed, said. She told the board she had raised the issue earlier at a county property appraisal town hall and was told the error stemmed from a computer problem.
Ms. Syed said the appraisal district included an apology note with the protest deadline of June 2 and that notices had been sent to agents in some cases rather than to property owners, leading some owners to report they had received no notice. She said the appraisal district reported countywide preliminary values were down about 8 percent and that preliminary values did not include the value of recent sales, which she said conflicted with the appraisal district's reappraisal plan.
She also cited a business personal property (BPP) exemption change, saying "with the new, BPP exemption, 85% of county's BPP account would pay $0 on the school taxes. So it's 38,000 accounts." She added that the count specific to Arlington ISD was "not specified" in the information she received.
Ms. Syed urged property owners to check notices and file protests if warranted: "If you get the notice and your market value is same as last year, go ahead and file the protest. You will definitely get some kind of relief," she said.
The comment was presented during the board's non‑agenda public forum; the board did not take action during the call to address the appraisal district's mailings during the meeting.
