Kiari said the issue spans multiple conflicts and affects families and communities for decades. "Since the adoption of the security council resolution 24 74 in 2019, the number of people affected by armed conflicts, including those reported missing in this context, has only continued to increase," he told the Council. He added that in 2024 the International Committee of the Red Cross registered 56,000 new cases of missing persons.
