Arlington ISD trustees elect officers, approve consent agenda; no action in closed session

Arlington ISD trustees on May 15 elected Justin Chapa as board president, Sarah McMorrow as vice president and Brooklyn Richardson as secretary and approved the consent agenda, with both motions passing unanimously.

The election motion — "I move that we elect Justin Chapa as president, Sarah McMorrow as vice president, and Brooklyn Richardson as secretary" — was moved by Trustee Wilbanks and seconded by Trustee Fowler. "The motion passes 7 in favor, no opposed," President Justin Chapa said after the vote.

The board also approved its consent agenda without dissent later in the meeting. "All 7 trustees vote in the affirmative. Consent agenda unanimously carries," Chapa said when the consent items were called.

Earlier in the evening the board convened into closed session under the Texas Open Meetings Act. "We are actually gonna go into closed session ... pursuant to sections 551.071 through 551.084 and 551.089 of the Texas Government Code," the board announced before recess. When the board returned to open session, Chapa said closed session had formally ended and that "the board took no action in closed session."

The board moved next to committee and staff reports and said it would continue implementation of district work items presented during the meeting.
