Hooper City discusses Everbridge contact, TextMyGov contract and governor invitation; civic groups request modest contributions

City staff used the May 15 work meeting to brief council members on several short administrative items.

Emergency preparedness: Staff said county emergency‑preparedness partners use Everbridge for mass notification and that training is scheduled for June 12 at the sheriff’s training center. Staff said the account requires an official city employee to be the message originator because messages are legally accountable to the originator; the training is expected to last about an hour and likely start about 2:30 p.m. Staff asked the council to identify a designated employee to attend and serve as the city’s Everbridge contact.

Contracts and subscriptions: Staff reminded the council that the city’s TextMyGov contract runs through December and that the last two‑year term cost “a little over $10,000.” Staff asked the council to note the upcoming renewal when preparing the next budget.

Governor’s housing meeting: Staff said Hooper City received an invitation to a Governor’s Office event on May 29, “Advancing Housing Solutions in Utah,” at the historic Governor’s Mansion; staff asked any council member who wishes to attend to notify the city for RSVP purposes.

Community contributions: A representative told the council that a regional youth coalition had requested roughly $1,000 from participating cities for a youth retreat and related activities; staff noted the city typically reviews such requests annually and that the coalition has contributed to prior local events.

Staff said it would place the Everbridge designation and any subscription decisions on future agendas if a council member requests formal action.
