Quincy licensing board approves one-day alcohol permits and two business licenses

The Quincy City Licensing Board on May 13 approved one-day liquor permits for two public events, granted a common victual license to a neighborhood supermarket and approved officer and manager changes for a packaged liquor store. Several routine agenda items were continued or withdrawn and the board accepted minutes and adjourned.

The board approved a one-day beer-and-wine permit for the Jimmy Kennedy Memorial Run for ALS to be held at Pageant Field after the 27th annual Squirrel Run on Saturday, June 7. Organizer Jay Saltwood told the board the vendor area was centrally located near the finish line at last year’s event and that vendors and food providers participated; the license request was approved by motion with no recorded objections.

The board also approved special-use one-day liquor permits requested by Friends of the Ruth Gordon Amphitheater for a series of Friday evening events and two daytime festivals. The permitted Friday evenings are scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. on dates listed by the applicant; the festivals are scheduled 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, and Saturday, Sept. 13, with rain dates identified. Organizer Sarah Gallard told the board she had reached out to known food vendors who have participated in prior years; the board approved the permits by motion.

At 494 C Street the board granted a common victualer license to the applicant identified as Adam Shaw (transcribed also as Adam Shore) Supermarket to allow limited prepared foods. Applicant Arpan Patel told the board the store will offer cold-cut sandwiches and salads only. Board staff noted an open sign violation; Patel agreed to replace the sign within about one month or two.

Packaging Center Inc., doing business as Stop & Shop at 65 Newport Avenue, received approval for changes to officers and directors and for a change in the store manager. Attorney Eugene Richard presented the application and named the incoming president and director as Roger Wheeler (replacing Gordon Reed), and other proposed changes to treasurer, secretary and director positions. The application also named John Willis as proposed manager; Richard said Willis has 24 years with Stop & Shop and has been at the Quincy supermarket since last November. The board approved the changes by motion.

Agenda item 3 was continued at the applicant’s request to the May 27 meeting; agenda item 4 was withdrawn without prejudice. The board accepted the April 29 minutes and then adjourned. The next hearing was scheduled for May 27.
