District highlights RTI progress, CTE growth and TCAT facility visit plans

District staff on Dec. 9 presented updates on Response to Intervention (RTI) efforts, Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming and an upcoming Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) visit.
Suzanne Atkinson, who presented the RTI update, said tier 1 practices (schoolwide supports) are meeting the needs of roughly 87–89% of students and that the district is shifting focus to more intensive tier 2 and tier 3 supports for students with chronic absenteeism or academic/behavioral challenges. Atkinson described interventions such as check-in/check-out, team problem-solving, referrals to outside services and regular district leadership reviews of school-level data.
In CTE and workforce updates, staff said the district won an award linked to its RTI work and highlighted culinary and attendance successes. The superintendent reported that Dr. Jones from TCAT will visit district facilities and that the district hopes to open certificate programs in welding and maintenance in the spring, subject to facility and logistics work.
