Board hears budget update; district explains delay in retroactive raises and base-pay proposals
Summary
Lake County Schools reported increases in August revenues and explained that county commission timing delayed implementation of proposed base-pay increases for paraprofessionals and other staff; if the county-approved budget holds, raises would be retroactive to August and included in future payroll.

District finance staff reported that August revenues increased and that the county commission’s delayed approval of the county budget affected the timing of district payroll actions. As a result, a proposed base-pay increase for paraprofessionals and other staff could not be applied to August payroll; staff said that, if the county-approved budget holds, the district will make the increases retroactive to August and include them in future payroll once the board and county budgets are finalized.
Staff described two phases of adjustments: an initial, smaller increase already applied to staff in June and an additional proposed base increase (district staff discussed examples such as raising the base to $12.50 per hour with further planned increases, in discussion variously characterized as $1.10 to $1.50 increases depending on final county approval). The district said it will present detailed numbers for board review at the October meeting so the board can approve retroactive pay and any further adjustment.
Board members asked whether the district should revisit paraprofessional positions; staff replied that payroll timing and county approval windows determined whether changes could be implemented in August pay, and that the district planned to bring finalized numbers to the October meeting so retroactive pay can be approved and processed.
No final board action to change pay scales occurred at the meeting; the board received the financial update and was told staff will return with specific figures for board approval.
