District receives Schneider Electric scope-of-work update on energy controls, links to roof repairs

District staff provided an update on Schneider Electric’s assessment and proposed scope of work for campuses in Lake County. Schneider Electric visited multiple campuses, prepared a scope of work that addresses controls and programming for thermostats, and plans to present a memorandum of understanding to the board at the next meeting.

District staff said Schneider Electric’s work focuses on programming and control strategy rather than hardware alone: the vendor’s proposals emphasize saving utility costs by adjusting how thermostats operate when buildings are unoccupied. The district noted that some work is contingent on roof repairs and remediation of water damage; once roofs are completed, additional controls work will be more effective because moisture-related damage affected systems in several buildings.

Staff described the project as multifaceted and cautioned that Schneider Electric is seeking to avoid overcommitting resources so the company can complete the project reliably. The district indicated the vendor will present cost details and a scope-of-work memorandum at the next board meeting and that staff will monitor contractor performance and inspect completed work.

Board members asked about progress on roofing and the condition of HVAC units; staff said high-school roofing work was about 90% complete, other sites were largely finished, and the district will continue to inspect progress and contractor work notes.

No contract award was finalized at the meeting; staff presented the vendor’s preliminary scope and said the memorandum of understanding will appear on the next meeting agenda for formal consideration.
