Board approves $600,000 amendment to Aegis Treatment Centers contract for Drug Medi‑Cal services

Placer County Health and Human Services reported May 13 that Aegis Treatment Centers, a medication-assisted treatment provider, has experienced increased utilization and the county needs to expand funding for Drug Medi‑Cal Organized Delivery System services.
Scott Genschmer, program manager for the Adult System of Care, told the board that Aegis provides screening and outpatient medication-assisted treatment for residents with opioid use disorder and that these services reduce impacts on the criminal justice system and hospitals. The services are state- and federally funded and were budgeted in the department’s grant accounts.
The board approved an amendment to increase the county agreement with Aegis Treatment Centers by $600,000, raising the total authorized contract amount to $5,350,000 for the original term July 1, 2023–June 30, 2025. The board also authorized the Director of Health and Human Services or designee to sign the amendment and to sign subsequent amendments not to exceed $100,000 cumulatively, subject to County Counsel and Risk Management concurrence.
Supervisors asked procedural questions; staff said the additional funding covers higher demand for medication-assisted treatment in Placer County.
