Alvin ISD Education Foundation presents $529,599.52 to district, highlights tornado relief and record fundraising

Brandy Grothe, executive director of the Alvin ISD Education Foundation, presented the foundation’s annual check to the Alvin Independent School District on May 19, saying the gift reflects community support and foundation fundraising.

Grothe told the school board the foundation raised more than in past years and cited several successful events and initiatives that drove the total: a redesigned annual gala, a relocated community “turtle race” that increased participation to “over 800 runners, including a 50 from the previous year,” and a series of successful grant applications. “On behalf of the Alvin ISD Education Foundation, it is a great honor to present the 20 24, 20 5 donations to Alvin ISD in the amount of $529,599.52,” Grothe said during the presentation.

Board members and district staff praised the foundation’s response after a tornado damaged Walt Disney Elementary, saying the foundation quickly organized donations and distribution for affected families and staff. A board member credited Grothe and the foundation’s volunteers with coordinating a large relief effort during the holiday break and funneling donations through the foundation so school staff could access funds immediately.

Superintendent Nelson and other trustees thanked the foundation’s board and volunteers. Trustees noted the foundation’s support for CTE partnerships across the district and said every grant the foundation wrote this year was awarded.

The presentation included a public photo and formal recognition of Grothe. The board did not take an action on the donation during the meeting; the presentation served as a public report and formal handoff of the foundation’s annual check amount to the district.

The board continued its agenda after the presentation and moved on to the Stantec schematic design presentation for Elementary School No. 23.
