The El Campo ISD Board of Trustees approved district participation in a Texas Education Agency pilot to implement Spanish-language materials from the Bluebonnet instructional program in kindergarten and first grade.
Board staff explained that the State Board of Education approved Bluebonnet's English materials earlier; the Spanish version must be piloted and reviewed through TEA's process before full statewide adoption. The pilot requires districts to provide usage feedback to the publisher and TEA.
The district said it would purchase materials for one kindergarten classroom and one first-grade classroom; staff estimated the materials cost about $4,500. Administrators said the district already uses the English Bluebonnet materials for some grades and viewed the Spanish pilot as the preferred option over other available alternatives.
The motion to approve participation and material purchase passed unanimously.
