County signs veterans-service accreditation request, proclaims Idaho Field of Heroes memorial days

Bannock County veteran services staff requested a signature from commissioners on May 15 so the county’s veterans service officer can complete certification through the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO). Melissa Hartman told commissioners she completed the required basic training and passed the test enabling her to apply for NACVSO accreditation; she said the application requires only the board’s signature and a background check by the national organization.

A commissioner moved to sign the accreditation request; the board voted “aye” and granted the signature.

Separately, the board read and adopted a proclamation designating May 23–26, 2025, as Idaho Field of Heroes Memorial Days. The proclamation described the Field of Heroes — a visual display at Century High School with white crosses and Stars of David — and the board’s intent to recognize service members who died or remain missing since Sept. 11, 2001. The proclamation listed commissioners’ names (Jeff Hoff, Ernie Moser and Ken Bullock) and was read into the record; commissioners thanked veteran services staff and noted community preparations for the upcoming memorial events.
