The South Carolina Public Charter School District board of trustees on May 15 accepted the voluntary termination of Pivot School's charter and contract and approved two routine financial items — the March 2025 financial report and the second reading of the district's fiscal year 2026 general fund budget — all by voice vote.
Board members moved quickly through the three action items during the public portion of the meeting following an executive session. Kristin Farmer, chief of authorization and development, told trustees that Pivot had been approved April 18, 2024, planned to open for the 2025–26 year and that the pivot board submitted a request to terminate the charter on May 13, 2025. Farmer said staff recommended the board accept the voluntary termination.
"PCSD staff recommends that the board of trustees accept the voluntary termination of the Pivot Schools charter and contract," Kristin Farmer said.
Trustees then voted by voice to accept the termination; the transcript records "all in favor, indicate by saying aye" and no opposition was recorded in the public minutes contained in the transcript.
Nick Michael, deputy superintendent of financial services, delivered the March 2025 financial report and asked for approval. Michael reported that through March 31 the district recorded about $154.5 million in revenue and about $154.2 million in expenditures for a net gain of roughly $273,000 for the year-to-date; the district office reported a net gain for the month that increased its beginning fund balance by about $283,589.
"For the month of March, the district recorded over $478,000 in revenue, over $378,000 in expenditures, for a net gain of $99,910," Michael said, and he requested board approval of the report.
Trustees approved the March financial report by voice vote; no opposition was recorded in the transcript.
Michael also presented the second reading of the FY26 general fund budget, noting the second reading matched the first because the Senate budget had not been finalized. The presentation reflected the House (H1) version assumptions, including increases tied to a $48,500 minimum salary schedule and a 3% cost-of-living adjustment for staff; the district office projected operating revenue of $5,573,700 and an overall 5.28% increase in both revenue and expenditures for the office portion of the budget. The board approved the second reading by voice vote.
Votes recorded in the transcript were voice votes; the meeting record available in the transcript does not list individual roll-call tallies for these items.
