The City Council proclaimed May 18–24, 2025, as Emergency Medical Services Week in St. Petersburg and highlighted the role of Saint Petersburg Fire Rescue personnel and community partnerships in preventing deaths and improving outcomes.
Councilmember Deborah Fick Sanders presented the proclamation and asked Chief Watts’ representative, Rescue Chief Lindsay Judah, to speak. Judah said the department requests the proclamation each year to “recognize the significant contributions made by our fire rescue personnel every single day.” Judah provided 2024 activity figures: Saint Petersburg Fire Rescue was dispatched to more than 57,000 EMS incidents in 2024, with total apparatus responses to EMS incidents exceeding 78,000. She also said the department currently has “over 370 sworn personnel serving our community as paramedics and EMTs.”
Judah described the department’s community work—CPR classes, distribution of smoke alarms and safety materials, and other outreach—and thanked partners, including Pinellas County EMS, for donating life jackets. Councilmembers thanked fire and EMS staff; the proclamation was presented as recognition and no legislative vote was recorded on the item.
Direct quote: Rescue Chief Lindsay Judah said, “May is the 51st anniversary of national EMS Week. The theme is We Care for Everyone.”
