Carroll County announces May 4 Veterans Celebration at Farm Museum, highlights services and resources

Carroll County officials invited the public to the county’s fourth annual Veterans Celebration on Sunday, May 4, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Farm Museum in Westminster, saying the free event will feature a resource fair, entertainment, activities and services for veterans and families.
Event organizers said admission and parking are free and that the celebration will honor veterans from the Cold War era (1974–1992) with a challenge coin and certificate. County staff emphasized the event is open to all veterans and community members.
Celine Steckel, director of citizen services, and members of the Veterans Advisory Council outlined programming planned for the event: live music (including the Westminster Municipal Band and the group Midnight Run), food trucks, children’s activities, a veterans resource fair with more than 30 vendors, a Gaga pit hosted by Carroll County Recreation and Parks, an obstacle course from Westminster Strength and Conditioning, and a commemorative pin and “sports pack” available for veterans.
Officials said veterans attending will receive a $5 coupon usable at food vendors, free bottled water available throughout the site, and a commemorative pin. The county also plans to have its veterans transportation shuttle (the “Mad Dog” shuttle) on display at the event and noted that the county operates a veterans medical-transport shuttle available for appointments through the Bureau of Aging and Disabilities.
Program leads identified several sponsors and in-kind supporters: Performance Food Group is the stage sponsor and the Keller Foundation is sponsoring golf-cart support to transport attendees with mobility needs. Organizers said more golf carts are on hand this year to help move visitors around the Farm Museum site.
Rick Pollard, a veteran services officer, summarized the veteran services program’s work—helping about 300 clients a year with claims, pensions, health care and burial benefits—and said the celebration helps connect veterans who may not already be in the system to services. County officials added that approximately 13,500 veterans live in Carroll County.
Organizers encouraged veterans and community members to attend and use the event as an opportunity to connect with service providers on-site and to ask questions about benefits and transportation options.
