Following a closed executive session for negotiations, the Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education on May 8 approved wages and salaries for classified and administrative employees.
The board entered executive session at 6:18 p.m. “for the purpose of negotiations because it is in the best interest of the public to discuss this matter in closed session,” a board member said before the motion to convene. After returning to open session at 6:42 p.m., a board member moved to approve the wages and salaries as presented; the motion was seconded by Miss Albers and recorded as passed.
The district recorded the action as approval in open session; the public transcript does not include a numerical roll call or detail the compensation amounts discussed in executive session. The meeting record lists the vote outcome as “Motion passes.”
Because the substantive negotiation discussion took place in executive session, the public record contains only the board’s final approval and the statement of the meeting’s purpose for the closed session.
