Committee approves renewal of Fremont Street maintenance district; no assessment for FY 2026

The recommending committee voted to approve an ordinance renewing Special Improvement District (SID) 1516, the Fremont Street maintenance district, and forwarded the bill to the City Council.
Zalala Malamu, engineering project manager with the Department of Public Works, described SID 1516 as “32 parcels bounded Las Vegas Boulevard to the West, Eighth Street to the East, Ogden Avenue to the North, and Carson Avenue to the South in Ward 3.” Malamu told the committee that the district covers landscape maintenance, street cleaning, public utilities, promotional events and marketing.
“Upon close coordination with the Fremont East District board, there will be no assessment for the period between 07/01/2025 and 06/30/2026 due to sufficient fund reserves,” Malamu said. Staff recommended approval; the committee closed the public hearing after no one spoke.
The chair called for a vote and recorded the item as passed. Staff noted in the hearing that Bill 2025-3 (SID 1485) and Bill 2025-4 (SID 1516) will be scheduled for the May 21, 2025 City Council meeting for final consideration.
The renewal confirms the district’s use of reserves to cover routine maintenance costs for FY 2026 and keeps assessments at zero for the coming year.
