Council debates mowing, parking enforcement and volunteer project coordination

Councilors discussed recurring roadside obstructions—cars, boats and flatbed trailers—that impede the town mower and complicate right-of-way maintenance. They considered issuing a notice, coordinating with the mower and using social media to alert residents when town crews will be operating.

A council member asked that staff include a parking-and-mowing reminder in an upcoming letter. Councilors described a longstanding summer problem in which vehicles left near the road prevent the mower from properly clearing the verge. "If you notice the mower out that week, move your car off and let her mow," one council member said, suggesting social media posts and direct notices to residents who repeatedly block mowing operations.

Participants noted Meadow has limited enforcement capacity for these violations. "We don't have our ordinances that allow us to fine that kind of stuff," a council member said; another said the town lacks a dedicated code enforcer. Councilors agreed staff would prepare a notice for distribution and coordinate mowing schedules with the contractor so residents would have advance notice to move vehicles.

Councilors also discussed how volunteer service projects are routed for public-works needs—tasks range from a few hours to multi-day efforts—and said they often direct volunteers to different projects based on skills and town needs. No formal change to enforcement authority was proposed during the meeting.
