The board was told both grants received deadline extensions to Sept. 1 because the contractor, SunRock, cannot start earlier. Members said the project must be free (complete) by Sept. 1 to meet grant conditions. During discussion, board members and staff noted that a substantial line item in the April invoice register related to restroom work for the park and that staff are tracking those costs separately.
Board members said the CDRA had arranged for a special project employee to support implementation; the position was described in the meeting as 40 hours per week for 10 weeks (400 hours total). The power department raised concerns during the discussion about providing conduit and underground power infrastructure for the project and said a plan for the underground power runs is not yet finalized.
TreeUtah was identified as the contractor scheduled to remove 10 trees later in the month as part of site preparation. Speakers asked for continued coordination between public works, the power department and the contractor to keep the schedule on track.
No formal action was taken on construction contracts at the May 13 meeting; the board received updates and set staff follow-ups.
