Board Schedules Municipal Outreach: Northeast and Kittatinny Regions Targeted for Workshops

Staff reported that outreach to municipalities in Carbon County’s northwest region is complete and that outreach will continue in the northeast and the Kittatinny Bridge region. The board reviewed a schedule of planned visits and workshop dates and discussed logistics to encourage municipal participation.
Staff said they have visited Penn Forest Township and Eastside Borough and are awaiting confirmation from Kenner Township for a May 22 meeting. Additional meetings were listed: Palmerton (May 22 at 7 p.m.), Bowmanstown (May 20), East Penn (June 6) and Lower Tow (June 3). Staff described the outreach as introductory: presentations are typically limited to two or three minutes on municipal agendas, and workshops will provide the detailed information.
Board members discussed workshop timing and locations to maximize attendance by municipal officials, who often work full time and attend evening meetings. Suggestions included offering late-afternoon and early-evening sessions, holding two sessions in one day (for staff and officials), and using central facilities such as Weatherly or the Big Creek Grange. Staff said they will circulate a Doodle poll to identify optimal days and times and encouraged board members to attend the workshops as volunteer ambassadors.
Staff also reported tracking municipal comprehensive-plan adoption dates and coordinating with the county comprehensive plan and greenway/recreation plan to dovetail outreach and funding opportunities. Members noted a 45-day comment window for municipal reviews and said staff will confirm specific deadlines.
