Central SD 13J board approves two out-of-state student trips; consent agenda passes unanimously

The Central SD 13J Board of Education on an unanimous voice vote approved two out-of-state student travel requests and the consent agenda during its regular meeting.

The board approved an out-of-state travel request for the Central High School baseball team to travel to Boise, Idaho, during spring break. Ben Kramer, a health and CT health sciences teacher and the head baseball coach at Central High School, described the trip as an opportunity for the team to compete against nonleague opponents, see college campuses and bond as a team. Kramer said the dates fall during spring break and that some Boise-area schools schedule tournaments at that time.

The board also approved an out-of-state field trip request for the Central High School jazz band and Main Street Singers to travel to Los Angeles in March. Ed Probst, who identified himself as a Central High School music teacher, said the itinerary would include visits to the Grammy Museum, a Disney Magic Music Days clinic (application in process), Universal Studios, and a session at the University of Southern California with clinicians and students.

Both trip motions passed on roll-call-style procedure with the board voting by show of hands; each recorded outcome was unanimous. The meeting record shows five board members voting in favor and none opposed.

Separately, the board approved the consent agenda by unanimous voice vote.

The board did not specify funding details for the travel requests during the meeting; presenters described educational and team-building objectives but did not detail trip costs or funding sources.

Next board meetings were listed as a PLC on Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. and the next regular meeting on Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
