Superintendent Jennifer Kubista announced Oct. 7 that Central High School has secured a direct admissions pathway with Western Oregon University. Under the agreement, Central seniors with a 3.0 grade‑point average or higher will receive guaranteed admission and an automatic merit‑based scholarship ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
Kubista said the agreement removes typical application barriers for eligible students: they will not need to complete the full application essays and materials; Western will request minimal additional information and will issue acceptance letters to students and mail copies to parents. The district said Western’s admissions office will also provide guidance on financial aid and additional scholarship opportunities.
Kubista called the partnership a way to reduce barriers to higher education and said acceptance letters will begin being mailed to homes and handed to students. No board action was required; the announcement was presented as part of the superintendent’s report.
