The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors on May 13 unanimously adopted a package of proclamations and approved several consent and action items, including a contract for a Building E restroom remodel and a $4,000 community organization allocation to support the county’s fireworks event.
The board approved proclamations recognizing Bret Harte High School’s 2025 valedictorian and salutatorian, Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee (May 15–18, 2025), Mental Health Awareness Month for May 2025, and National Public Works Week (May 18–24, 2025). All proclamations passed by voice votes recorded as 5–0.
On the consent agenda the board approved routine items and later took up two pulled items. The board authorized the chair to execute an agreement with TNS Intermodal Maintenance, Inc., dba TNS West, in an amount not to exceed $384,756 for the Building E restroom remodel project at the Calaveras County government center. The contract term is 180 working days from notice to proceed; the project includes asbestos and mold mitigation and modifications to make two restrooms ADA-compliant. The board recorded the vote as 5–0.
The board also approved a community organization district allocation of $4,000 to the San Andreas Rotary Club to support fireworks at Hogan (item 11). That motion passed 5–0.
Votes at a glance - Building E restroom remodel (Invitation to Bid No. 24-1040-18-914): authorize chair to execute agreement with TNS Intermodal Maintenance, Inc. dba TNS West; not to exceed $384,756; 180 working days from notice to proceed; vote 5–0. - Proclamation: Bret Harte High School valedictorian and salutatorian recognized; vote 5–0. - Proclamation: Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee (May 15–18, 2025); vote 5–0. - Proclamation: Mental Health Awareness Month, May 2025; vote 5–0. - Proclamation: National Public Works Week, May 18–24, 2025; vote 5–0. - Community organization allocation to San Andreas Rotary Club: $4,000 for fireworks; vote 5–0.
Why this matters: The actions collectively acknowledge community events and student achievement, while the restroom contract addresses an ADA, mold and asbestos remediation need at a county facility. The votes were unanimous, and staff said the county had budgeted up to $450,000 for the project and that prevailing wages, hazardous-material abatement and construction compliance drive costs higher than a typical residential remodel.
