Applicant asks city to delete Humble Parkway segment from MTFP citing encumbrances

"Therefore, we request the Humble Parkway be deleted from the city's MTFP map," Jacob Guerrero said during the presentation. Guerrero said existing frontage roads, a nearby bridge crossing and the current street network provide adequate access and that intersection spacing and existing encumbrances mean a new major north–south roadway would not materially improve regional circulation.
Why it matters: Removing the segment would change the official thoroughfare map for the northeast portion of the city and could alter right-of-way expectations for future development. Guerrero showed exhibits arguing the alignment's proximity to pipelines and Reinhard Bayou would make the thoroughfare impractical and that the area is already served by constructed segments of Townsend Boulevard and frontage roads.
What's next: The application will proceed through the planned virtual open house and the commission's July 24 public hearing for technical review and public comment. No action was taken at the workshop.
