Plainview OKs YMCA contract to run summer pool season for $30,000

The Plainview City Council voted May 13 to authorize an agreement with the YMCA for lifeguarding, day-to-day operations and maintenance of the municipal pool for the 2025 summer season.
Under the contract, the YMCA will be paid $30,000 for services for the term May 15 through Sept. 15, 2025. The agreement includes a 50% cost-sharing arrangement capped at $25,000. Staff said the pool season will open on Memorial Day weekend and that normal daily hours begin May 31; operating hours and fee structure were simplified to a single price this year.
City staff reported that the pool had 19,329 visits last year. The YMCA's reported net operating figures for the previous season were net income of $221,742.15, net expenses of $200,119.81 and a net profit of $21,622.34; the city’s share of that split was listed as $10,811.17.
Mister Williams (title in transcript: staff presenter) explained the operational responsibilities that the YMCA will assume, including minimum lifeguard staffing, operations scheduling, maintenance, and supply procurement. Councilmember House moved to approve the agreement; Mayor Pro Tem Weiss seconded. The mayor announced the vote was unanimous and the contract was approved.
The agreement sets pool hours for opening weekends and daily schedules beginning May 31; staff said more detailed scheduling and pricing are included in the contract documents but did not present additional changes at the May 13 meeting.
