Marion County awards $3.9 million asphalt resurfacing contract for Mount Angel area roads

Marion County commissioners on May 14 approved a construction contract with North Santiam Paving in the amount of $3,902,349.68 to provide asphalt and concrete resurfacing for various county roads, with work planned between May and September.
Ryan Crother, Public Works, said the project list is primarily in the Mount Angel area and includes McKee School Road, Monitor McKee Road, 114th Street/114th Avenue, Park Drive, West Church, Saratoga, Hook Road and North Howell Road. The county will perform isolated pavement repairs, a scrub-seal base on two roadways, base and top lift paving, guardrail replacement, striping and shoulder rock work. Crother said the contract received four bids and the low bid from North Santiam Paving was accepted; the work is funded with county road funds (the county's portion of gas-tax revenue).
A commissioner noted the contract language referenced concrete as well as asphalt; Crother clarified the project is asphalt only. The board approved the contract by voice vote.
