County approves $615,162 contract amendment for North Fork Road slide stabilization

Marion County commissioners voted May 14 to approve amendment No. 4 to the engineering services contract with Dowell (consultant) to add construction engineering and inspection services for the North Fork Road slide stabilization project. County staff said the amendment adds $615,162.04 to the contract, bringing the contract total to $1,797,174.84.
Ryan Crother, Marion County Public Works, described the project location as east of Salem between mileposts 4.9 and 5.5 and said the work focuses on stabilizing one of three active slides using a shear-key buttress — large rock placed and keyed into stable ground. Crother said geotechnical analysis and project design are complete and environmental permits are being finalized; right-of-way work and utility relocation are scheduled to begin this summer, with construction expected to start in 2026.
The amendment will fund project management, engineer-of-record services, contract administration and a specialized inspector to supplement county staff during construction. Crother said an estimated $551,984.90 of the amendment will come from federal funding and an estimated $63,177.14 will use county funds.
The board approved the amendment by voice vote.
