Dickinson council certifies May 3 election, corrects vote total and swears in three members

The Dickinson City Council at a special meeting canvassed the returns and declared the results of the May 3, 2025, general election, adopted an amendment to correct an incorrect vote total in the resolution and administered the oath of office to three newly elected council members.
The council moved to approve the canvass of returns for the general election (agenda item 5a). Council member Johnny Simpson offered the motion and Council member Jesse Brantley seconded, and members voted in favor. A council member pointed out that the resolution language listed an incorrect vote total of "14,000" and asked that it be changed to "852." The council member said, "8 50 2, if that could be put in the motion, please. I'll amend by motion." A second was recorded, the amendment was accepted, and the motion passed.
The resolution certified the returns and declared the winners for council positions 2, 4 and 6. After the canvass the council proceeded with agenda item 5b and administered the oath of office.
Dr. Marston Sean Holt was sworn in to Council member position 2. Immediately after taking the oath, Holt said he was new to the office and offered brief remarks: "I'm just here to offer my support, my help, and my service back to the community. I plan to put everything I have into this position. Thank you guys for electing me." Dr. Scott Eugene Schroeder was then sworn in to position 4 and told supporters, "I hope to serve the city well and represent the citizens and the taxpayers." Kevin Dale Edmonds was sworn in to position 6 and gave longer remarks thanking voters and his wife and saying he looked forward to serving.
The oath administered to each official followed the standard municipal form: the official repeated language swearing to "faithfully execute the duties of the office of the City of Dickinson, Council member [position], of the state of Texas, and to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this state." The swearing was performed in open session; no roll-call vote was required for the oaths.
After the swearing, the council moved to adjourn.
